Mostly when you see this warning message on your dashboard, the best thing would be to follow this advice and stop vehicle leave engine running at safe place – turn off all lights A/C (Air Conditioning) and any other features radio etc. which uses car’s battery.
Let car to run for 20-30 minutes as many time this is caused by drained battery due to excessive use of AC, radio, exterior or interior lights etc and simple re-charging solves it or alternative option is to go to highway and drive car fast (not exceeding speed limits) in this way battery will be charged much more faster.
If fault message doesn’t dissapear after running car on with parking, try our other advices from top to bottom, as we did fix many mercedes-benz with the same malfunction.
Recharging and or replacing main battery
The most likely that main starter baterry A0009823108 needs to be chareged or replaced, this is the most common malfunction on C-class W205 S205 A205 C205 E-class W213 S213 C238 A238 S-class W222 A217 C217 GLC X253 Hatchback and GLC C253 Coupe vehicles.
If you would like to save some money try to leave car in parking transmision for 20-3o minutes with all features such as AC (air conditioner), radio, exterior and interior lights turned off, disconnect all the electronic devices and charges connected to the auxiliary port and cigarette outlet, basically turn off everything what is possible except engine, let it run and charge main battery, in mostly of our repair cases that worked like a charm.

Common causes of stop vehicle leave engine running:
Keeping ignition on with the engine turned off
Leaving the lights on – interior or exterior
Parasitic current draw draining the battery when the vehicle is parked
The battery is no longer holding a charge, test and replace the battery
Too many electronic consumers connected to the auxiliary outlets
Defective alternator or voltage regulator
Loose battery connection or ground
Serpentine belt damaged or off
Leaving the lights on or exessive usage of accessories
A common cause for this error can be leaving the lights on for too long. This type of human error causes drainage of the auxiliary battery. The battery sends power to the headlights of the car, causing energy drainage. Jumpstarting the battery can fix this. However, continuous drainage of the battery shortens its lifespan.
Another big issue too much usage of car’s accessories such as listening music etc and driving short distances, you need to remember that to power up and charge up the battery you need to have a good drive, but if you are using all the additional accessories and driving just short trips it may also cause that drainage of the battery.
A parasitic drain
A parasitic drain can also cause the error to occur, and it happens when the vehicle’s accessories draw power from the auxiliary battery and or main battery even after the removal of the key from the ignition. Small parasitic drains are typical and occur when the battery delivers electricity to save radio presets, operate security and keep the clock running. However, if the car’s electronic system is faulty, large systems could be operational when the car is turned off, draining the battery.
A defective alternator
A defective alternator can cause battery failure leading to the above error. The alternator supplies power primarily to the car systems by converting the engine power into electrical energy. This power recharges the auxiliary battery, ensuring it has enough power. Faults in the alternator cause battery drainage over and over when the car is started, eventually causing failure. If your vehicle has electrical issues like lights flickering and the battery keeps dying, get your alternator inspected and fixed as soon as possible as it is crucial part.
Faulty battery
Don’t forget to check main battery located at the front of the car under the hood (bonnet) and try to re-charge it before buying new, as it is common issue on mercedes-benz cars.
Sometimes simple A0009823108 battery replacement does a job and you can fit any brand battery until it matches required power and capacity of the battery required by car’s manufacturer.

S class W222 A217 C217
GLC X253 Hatchback C253 Coupe GLC250 GLC300 GLC63 AMG
Poor maintenance and installation
Poor maintenance and installation can cause the error. If a relatively new car’s battery A0009823108 is having performance issues, it could be because of loose cables or corrosion. If the electrical wires are not tightened and correctly installed, they shake, causing failure. Ensure the terminals are tight to resolve this problem. Corrosion buildup causes electrical failure, though this may be a sign of bigger issues such as a faulty electrical system.
If there is corrosion or you are getting this warning message time by time, then we recommend to check positive and negative terminals on the battery to make sure there is no corrosion on any of the battery posts if there is any – use battery terminal brush and clean them to ensure good connection between battery and car’s electronics.

Read on to learn more about this warning light commonly encountered by Mercedes Benz vehicle owners.
Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running
There is an issue with your car battery if you notice the warning “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” appears on the dashboard of your Mercedes Benz vehicle. Some of the reasons why this happens are the following:
Leaving Lights on for Too Long Excessive Use of Accessories Parasitic Drains Faulty Alternator Bad Voltage Regulator Battery No Longer Holds a Charge
Below, we’ll briefly discuss each of these causes.
1. Leaving Lights on for Too Long
Leaving the car lights on for too long is one of the reasons why the car battery becomes defective. It tends to drain the auxiliary battery.
When the car battery delivers power to the headlights, it can cause energy drainage. You can fix this by jumpstarting the battery with a handy portable jump starter. However, if you continue to leave the car lights on for too long, it will most likely shorten your car battery’s lifespan.
2. Excessive Use of Accessories
You might eventually encounter a faulty battery if you permanently attach excessive electronics to your car’s auxiliary outlets. An example of this is if there are five of you in the car and all of you are charging smartphones simultaneously. You use a USB extension port to make this possible.
While the car radio is also turned on, doing so is not advisable, especially when driving short distances. It will not efficiently charge your smartphones or other electronic devices.
Also, you are simply wasting your car battery. Worse, the “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” warning light might come on sooner or later.
3. Parasitic Drains
The “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” error can also result from a parasitic drain resulting from different factors. It can be due to glove box lights that do not properly turn off even when the door is closed. The same case can happen regarding your car’s trunk lights, underhood lights, and headlights.
4. Faulty Alternator
Battery failure can also result from a defective alternator, leading to the “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” error. The alternator primarily supplies power to the car’s system.
It is capable of converting engine power into electrical energy. Such power is responsible for recharging the auxiliary battery.
If the alternator is defective, it can drain the battery repeatedly every time the car is started. This will eventually cause battery failure.
A defective or corroded alternator diode will erroneously charge the circuit. This happens even if the car’s engine is off. Unfortunately, this occurrence drains the car battery and causes the vehicle not to start.
5. Bad Voltage Regulator
If you happen to encounter the warning “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” with your Mercedes Benz, there is a chance that it has a bad voltage regulator. If your car’s voltage regulator burns out, the battery will not be capable of charging anymore. This will cause the battery to die eventually.
The voltage regulator ensures that steady charging voltage and power are efficiently delivered to the car battery. It is also responsible for providing sufficient voltage and power to other electronic components.
6. Battery No Longer Holds a Charge
If the “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” warning pops up on the dashboard of your Mercedes Benz, there’s a likelihood that the problem is literally with the battery. The other parts of your car may all be in good condition. The car battery itself may be the only issue.
Check your car’s main battery. Before replacing it with a new one, try to recharge it and see if it will still work. You might still be able to use it for all you know, and there might not be any need to buy a brand new one.
What to Do If “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” Appears on the Dashboard
If the warning “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” appears on the dashboard, what are you supposed to do?
Drive Slowly and Carefully as You Pull Over
If you encounter this, drive slowly and carefully as you pull over to the side. Make sure that you are stopping at a safe place. Then, shift to P or shift to Park Mode.
This is why in some cases, the warning says “Stop Vehicle Shift to P Leave Engine Running,” instead of a mere “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running.” That way, it will not slip your mind to shift to park mode.
Turn Off All the Lights, AC, Among Others
The next thing to do is turn off all the lights, the air conditioning system, the radio, and all the other things that use the car battery. But do not turn off the car engine.
Let the Car Idle for 20 to 30 Minutes
Let your Mercedes Benz idle for about 20 to 30 minutes. Doing so will allow the car battery to recharge. If you have the chance, you can also eventually drive down the highway, where you can drive the car fast. That way, the car battery will also charge more quickly.
Replace Car Battery If Warning Does Not Disappear
If the warning does not disappear, then it means that the battery fails to charge. You might need to replace it with a new one, or there might be other factors that prevent the car battery from charging.
What to Do If “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” Appears on the Dashboard of Your Mercedes Benz
Here are things you can do if the warning “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” appears on the dashboard of your Mercedes Benz car:
Recharge the Car Battery Use a Trickle Charger Replace the Car Battery
1. Recharge the Car Battery
Have you been driving your Mercedes Benz car with the same battery for years? If yes, it should not surprise you to see the warning “Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running” appear on your car’s dashboard.
If you encounter this, there’s a big chance you need to either recharge or replace your car battery.
This error is commonly found in Mercedes Benz vehicles manufactured from 2015 onward. Some of the models that form part of these are C180, C250, C43 AMG, C200, E300, GLC300, and C300.
Check Whether You Can Still Charge the Battery
Before you even decide to buy a brand new car battery, it is best to check if the battery can still be recharged:
Park your car somewhere safe.
Then, turn off everything that consumes the battery except the car engine.
Let the engine run continuously. But turn off the air conditioning system, the car radio, and the exterior and interior lights. If you are charging electronic devices, you have to remove the wires or disconnect them. That way, there will be no hindrances in the battery charging process.
Continue to run the engine for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Then, try to drive it fast if it is possible. If you can go down the highway, drive your Mercedes Benz fast. But make sure not to exceed the speed limit. This will help you recharge your car battery faster.
2. Use a Trickle Charger
Cheaper Option Than Immediately Buying a Brand New Car Battery
In case the battery of your Mercedes Benz still does not charge, you can use another method for recharging the car battery. A trickle charger is another cheaper option than immediately buying a brand new car battery.
Connect the Trickle Charger Cables
If you apply this method, there’s no need to keep the car engine running. Connecting the trickle charger cables is similar to connecting the positive and negative wires when jumpstarting a car.
Switch the Charger On
Once all cables are correctly attached, you may now switch the charger on. It is best to read the battery’s manual and the trickle charger’s manual before conducting this method. That way, you will be familiar with the proper settings and be able to charge the car battery successfully.
3. Replace the Car Battery
If the two charging methods are unsuccessful, maybe it is time to replace the car battery with a brand new one. Buying a brand new battery will undoubtedly be costly. But it will save you a lot of headaches and inconveniences.
Again, what is the cause of a Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running Warning on the dashboard? Mercedes-Benz Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running (Solved & Explained)
If the Stop Vehicle Leave Engine Running warning light appears, do exactly as it says. An old battery, a faulty alternator, and bad wiring are all possible reasons why the battery is not holding its charge.
I saw a weird warning about my engine running. What does that mean?
If you came to this page, then you have seen the same warning I saw as well. So, I’m guessing you were just driving around one day when this strange warning appeared. I’ve never seen this one before and it looks a bit more elaborate than other types of vehicle warnings.
The warning states:
Stop vehicle
Shift to p
Leave Engine Running.
So, what does this mean and why did it appear?
Your vehicle is telling you to stop driving and pull over or go back home and pull into your driveway. Then, shift your vehicle into park but do not turn off your vehicle. Leave the engine running.
In addition to leaving the engine running, turn off the air conditioner, lights, radio, and anything else that does not need to be on. You do not want anything else affecting a vehicle’s battery other than the engine.
This warning will appear when the battery in your vehicle is draining. Allowing your Mercedes-Benz to idle in your driveway will recharge the battery in your vehicle.
You need to leave the vehicle running for 30 minutes or more.
When the battery’s charge is back to its normal level, the warning will disappear. If the warning does not disappear after the 30-minute idle, then you have a battery issue.
So, what would happen if the driver ignored this warning?
Ignoring a battery warning is not a good idea. As you now know, when this warning appears, it means that the battery is a tale of charge.
Something is draining away the batteries charged. If you ignore the warning and keep driving, don’t be surprised if your vehicle suddenly turns off on the freeway.
Your vehicle does not need to be at a slow MPG or idling to turn off. It can and will turn off whenever the battery is completely drained.
The moment you see this morning, turn around and go home or go back to your job’s parking lot. Just wait for 20 and 30 minutes and allow the battery to recharge. And while you’re waiting, do not charge your phone with the electricity from the vehicle.
What are the main causes of the Leave Engine Running warning?
No Mercedes-Benz owner should see this warning on their dashboard. It is a sign that something is wrong.
In most cases, you can leave the engine idling and it will recharge the battery. But the battery shouldn’t need recharging. Allowing the vehicle to idle to charge the battery is not a solution. It is a Band-Aid, and you have to find out the reason why the battery is draining.
Here are the four common reasons for a draining battery.
The battery is old and can no longer go to charge. – This issue is common with resold Mercedes-Benz. Sometimes the battery ages faster than other parts of the vehicle.
If the battery is too old and can no longer hold a charge, then you need a new battery for your Mercedes-Benz. A typical Mercedes-Benz battery will cost around $150. Higher quality batteries will be around $250.
If you have a hybrid Mercedes-Benz, then the price tag will be more than quintuple. The cost of a hybrid battery for a Mercedes-Benz can be up to $6,000.
The alternator is corroding or faulty. – The alternator is the device that takes the voltage from the battery and supplies it to the rest of the car. It can also convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
If the alternator breaks, your vehicle is in for a world of hurt. When a BMW has a bad alternator, the battery will drain faster than ever. So, you need to replace or repair the alternator.
It is possible to repair an alternator but there shouldn’t be much damage. If there is too much damage, then replacing it is better.
You accidentally left the lights on inside the vehicle cabin. Leaving the lights on inside the vehicle is something we all have done. Do not kick yourself because you will probably do it again in the future. If this is the reason why the battery drained, then you’re nothing to worry about. As long as you remember to turn off the lights in the cabin before you leave your vehicle, everything will be fine.
If you have an older Mercedes, then leaving the lights on while driving the vehicle could also drain the battery.
The bad bulb is draining the charge. Do you have a bulb in your vehicle that does not turn on? Have you ever considered that the wiring is still sending a voltage to the blown-out bulb? The light could be on and using electricity without your knowledge.
The bulb has likely drained the battery for months. Find the bulb that does not work and replace it with a new bulb. If that light automatically comes on, you know why the battery drained.
How often should I replace my Mercedes Benze’s battery?
Ideal World, a vehicle battery should last as long as the vehicle. But overheating, water damage, and bad wiring can affect the battery’s performance.
If the battery experiences too many problems, it can burn out faster than its warranty guarantees.
On average, every four to five years the owner of a Mercedes-Benz must replace their vehicle’s battery.
Conclusion
Never ignore a warning about your vehicle’s battery. It will not go well for you. There are several reasons why the battery could suddenly drop too low or no charge. Perhaps the driver left the lights on in the vehicle all night. A bad bulb or active wiring could be draining the battery. The alternator may be faulty and needs repairing or replacing. Also, a battery can be too old to hold a sufficient charge anymore. The cause for the let engine idle warning needs an investigation. Allowing your vehicle to idle and charge the battery is not a permanent solution.
